Please post: I'm writing this in hopes that the personal observations I have made in my trip to Cancun (Playa de Carme) at Pricess Platinum Resorts may be able to help some of your citizens and my fellow travelers. On Tuesday April 18, 2017, at the Princess Yucatán Platinum where I was a resident, I met with a young woman from Montreal and her companion, a male who resides in Toronto of Egyptian descent and spoke with them at length. They were set to return to Canada the following day and had been at Chichén Itzá the previos day and we're very sunned and dehydrated. Whilst seated at the bar, I observed the bartender continuously bring them tequila and lines and was present when they both fell ill and requested that the hotel staff do something, which unfortunately, they refused to do and insisted that I pay $50 USD in cash, up front if I wished to have her see a medic. because I am fluent in Spanish, I further explained that I was a medic in the US military and could tell she was in need of medical attention. The staff merely wanted to wheel her to her room in her unconscious state and refused my pleas for help. They insisted that her "husband" could care for her, but he was no where around, as he had gone to vomit himself and was also incoherent. Though I insisted they would not allow me to attend to her and ultimately, since I would not depart from the hallway outside of their hotel room, I was arrested and then carted off, sans shoes nor clothing to the local Police station. At no time did they alert the US consulate that I had been detained and deprived of my liberty. Both Canadians were young, in their 20s and unable to speak for themselves in their inebriated state. I am appalled at the inaction of the hotel representatives and extremely concerned for the wellbeing of my fellow travelers. Please feel free to contact me, should you require additional details and information regarding this disturbing occurrence.
